It is just, however, by coincidence that 28 years ago today, former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. was shot by a lone gunman Rolando Galman while Ninoy was disembarking from a China Airlines plane upon arriving from America at the then Manila International Airport (now renamed as Ninoy Aquino International Airport).
In his historical message before the Asia Society on August 4, 1980 in New York, Ninoy said, “I have carefully weighed the virtues and the faults of the Filipino and I have come to the conclusion that he is worth dying for because he is the nation’s greatest untapped resource.”

Spiritually, the General Authorities and the missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ, who sacrificed themselves in serving a 2-year mission here, regarded Filipinos as "great" too.
They had experienced that Filipinos love their Savior, fully understood and lived the principle of reverence, and obedient in keeping the Lord's covenants.
Those Mormons were overwhelmed with emotion. In fact, the late President Gordon B. Hinckley couldn't hold himself back to tears. He believed that true miracle was wrought by the Lord here in the Philippines. Thus, the Manila Philippines Temple was built, dedicated for the Filipino Mormons to work on with their personal endowment, family sealing, and for their dead ancestors.
