DepED La Carlota Teachers' Day Celebration

The continuous rain brought by typhoon "Marcel" didn't hamper the teachers of the Division of La Carlota City who paraded at the main thoroughfares of the city to kick off their culminating activities for the World Teachers' Day celebration.

The blogger
These teachers in their respective district uniform converged at the covered court of former La Carlota City High School, now Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School to have their program to join with the rest of the teachers of the world to celebrate the World Teachers' Day

At 10:05 in the morning, a long blast of the siren was sounded to signify the synchronized day of observing the world teachers' day all over the Philippines and with a  recitation of national prayer for the teacher followed to edify the very purpose of honoring the teachers in their invaluable efforts and service as a true molder of character and giving them time to enjoy for themselves.

Cheer dance competition made the program enjoyable. The District I, II, III, and the three national high schools like Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto, La Granja, and San Miquel participated in.

The teachers also enjoyed themselves as they competed and played the "Laro ng Lahi" like going to the market, fetch and carry, "bagol", sack race, "pagulong" (tire race).

Afternoon Activities - Harvest of Excellence

Some of their major activities in the afternoon were giving of awards and recognitions to the exemplary and outstanding elementary and secondary teachers based on the results of their last school year's academic performance in the National Achievement Test (NAT) and school with the highest or above the 75% standard MPS. Cash incentive was also given.

Cubay Elementary School, my school, was one of those schools that received an award for having a zero dropout rate in the school year 2011-2012 with cash incentive of Three Thousand Pesos (Php3,000.00). And my teacher in social studies (HEKASI 6), Mrs. Mary Ella Amar also received an award for having achieved the above standard of MPS of 75% in the said subject area.

Portia M. Mallorca, OIC-schools Division Superintendent, gave her own tribute to the teachers, the heroes of the hour, by rendering her own version of the song, "I'm a teacher."

The complete lyrics of the song:

I'm A Teacher

I'm a teacher a purveyor of truth and light
I'm a teacher I was born to improve mankind
It's my duty to enligthen the world
And guide the young to the path of the Lord.

I'm a teacher I must brave all the roaring storms
And the fury of the rivers and windy seas
I must climb on top of the mountains and hills
Where children there wait for my love and care

In the mountain or in the city
In an island where I may be
I must keep on bringing the light
for I'm a teacher I'm a teacher forever.
