Text2Teach Program

BridgeIT is conceptualized in 2003 by Nokia, Pearson, the International Youth Foundation (IYF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It was pilot-tested in the Philippines because of the country's robust mobile technology infrastructure and the Filipinos extensive use of mobile phones. The Philippine pilot came to be known as text2teach.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of text2teach is to make a significant contribution to the quality of teaching and learning in underserved schools and communities in the Philippines.

Mayor consulting the school heads of the project
Its objectives are to 1) use advanced mobile communications technology for education; 2) encourage cooperation among the public, private and civil society sectors at the local and global levels; and 3) complement the indigenous curriculum with high quality educational content delivered through a mobile network, and with integrated teacher training.

Target Group and Beneficiaries

At the minimum, text2teach directly benefits public elementary school students in grade 5 and 6 every year. Additional ancillary beneficiaries include (depending on the particular circumstances of each school) students in grade 4, school heads and teachers in the public school system.

  1. Sounds like a great program! They are doing such a good job at educating those kids.

  2. Wow sir! This is just an innovatively innovative innovation (verbose, lol!)

Hope other cities could adapt this :)

  3. This is a good development using mobile technology in teaching as kids relate more to the mobile world.

  4. We really cannot discount the role of technology in our educational system.

  5. It's good to know that there are such program. Is it a regular session that's held like every year or just this time?

    1. This could be a regular program scheduled for the whole school year. I think every year T2T is coming up with a new subject. In our division, we haven't started yet. Probably in the middle of this school year 2013-2014.

  6. Great program, I agree with's hoping the government can do more! :)

  7. text2teach seems like a great program for children and schools

  8. using the most popular way of communication (texting) as a tool of learning is a nice idea. hope it'll prosper more. Yahweh bless. ralph
