CES Pupils Gives Credence to UN Principles

In the Division of La Carlota City, the Cubay Elementary School celebrates the 68th year of the United Nations by a parade and search for Mister and Miss UN 2013. The pupils have made to realize the international sovereignty of equal rights to every nation.

The pupils from kindergarten class to grade six opened up the memorable day by a parade to the nearby place of Hacienda Parnaso where the school is located.

Dressed in their preferred country, they looked smart, lovely and amazing the way they carried themselves. Their faces were full happiness. Their supportive parents were on the look out as they enjoyed the short program after the parade.

Several pupil-candidates representing the various nations in the world tried their luck on-the-spot search for Mister and Miss United Nations.

Master Joshua Managuit, a grade 6 pupil and a cute Tweenie Labrador, a grade 5 pupil were able to make it after hurdling several patriotic questions shot by Ma'm Melanie C. Reyes.

HEKASI coordinator of the school, Mr. Mario A. Malacaman crowned the winning Miss United Nations, Ms. Tweenie Labrador. The school principal, this blogger, crowned the Mister United Nations 2013.

Mr. Malacaman remarks that the United Nations is an international organization of those peace-loving nations. He adds that to celebrate this UN day is a manifestation of a strong advocacy of all the pupils, the teachers, and the parents/guardians as well of the UN Principles of peace and security among nations.

Philippines, Original Member of the UN

The PH became the member of the United Nations on October 24, 1945.

The Charter of the United Nations was signed on 26 June 1945, in San Francisco, at the conclusion of the United Nations Conference on International Organization, and came into force on 24 October 1945.

In 1945, there were 51 original members of the United Nations. And the Philippines is one of those members. The members are Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Iran[+], Iraq, Lebanon, Liberia, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippine Republic, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Syria[+], Turkey, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, Union of South Africa, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Yugoslavia.

The latest UN members as of 2011 are 193.

The United Nations

The United Nations have four purpose why they are organized. They are as follows:

1. International peace and security
2. Friendly relationship among nations for equal rights and self-determination of peoples
3. Co-operation among nations in solving international problems and respect for human rights and for freedoms for all without discrimination as to race, sex, language or religion
4. Centre or harmonizing the action of nations.

Salient important principles of the United Nations, which every member nation should adhere to follow:

1. Sovereign equality of all members
2. Fulfillment of obligations among members in good faith
3. Settlement of international disputes by peaceful means
4. No threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state
5. All members shall give the United Nations every assistance in any action
6. Ensure non-member nations to with these Principles or maintenance of international peace and security
7. The United Nations are not authorized to intervene within the domestic jurisdiction of any state


Any peace-loving states may be legible to become member of the UN as long as they follow the obligations contained in the present Charter of the UN.

Any member-nations which persistently violated the UN Principles may be expelled from the Organization by the General Assembly as recommended by the Security Council.


The UN has six organs such as a General Assembly, a Security Council, an Economic and Social Council, a Trusteeship Council, an International Court of Justice, and a Secretariat.

The General Assembly is the main deliberative, policy making and representative organ of the United Nations.

The General Assembly is composed of all the members of the United Nations. It discusses ay questions for the maintenance of international peace and security. It may call the attention of the Security Council when international peace and security is endangered.

The Security Council has fifteen Members of the United Nations. Five are permanent members such as the Republic of China, France, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America .

The other ten members of the Security Council are elected from the General Assembly with the status of non-permanent membership.
The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression. It calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement.

The Security Council may investigate any dispute or any situation which might lead to international friction or give rise to a dispute.

The Economic and Social council is the United Nations platform on economic and social issues.

The Economic and Social Council may make or initiate studies and reports with respect to international economic, social, cultural, educational, health, and related matters.

The Trusteeship System functions to further international peace and security; to promote the political, economic, social, and educational advancement of the inhabitants of the trust territories; to encourage respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion, and to encourage recognition of the interdependence of the peoples of the world; and to ensure equal treatment in social, economic, and commercial matters for all Members of the United Nations and their nationals.

The Trusteeship System is composed of members administering trust territories and other members elected by the General Assembly.

The International Court of Justice shall be the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. It gives an advisory opinion on any legal question as requested by the General Assembly or the Security Council.

The Secretariat shall comprise a Secretary-General and such staff as the Organization may require. The Secretary-General shall be appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council. He shall be the chief administrative officer of the Organization.

The Secretary-General shall act in that capacity in all meetings of the General Assembly, of the Security Council, of the Economic and Social Council, and of the Trusteeship Council, and shall perform such other functions as are entrusted to him by these organs.

The duties carried out by the Secretariat are as varied as the problems dealt with by the United Nations. These range from administering peacekeeping operations to mediating international disputes, from surveying economic and social trends and problems to preparing studies on human rights and sustainable development.

UN Presidents

Carlos P. Romulo is the 6th President of the United Nations in 1949. And the 68th president of the United Nations is John W. Ashe of Antigua and Barbuda. He was elected in the 68th General Assembly on June 14, 2013. Paul-Henri Spaak of Belgium was the first elected president of the first session of the General Assembly on January 16, 1946.

History of the United Nations

The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories.

In World War II, the representatives of 26 Allied nations fighting against the Axis Powers me in Washington, D.C. to pledge their support for the Atlantic Charter by signing the "Declaration by United Nations".
